The AI Boom
Despite my aversion in using AI and AI tools, I cannot help but look into the impact AI will have towards my career as an aspiring UI/UX designer and how the industry will by impacted with its prominence. With that, I have learned about the AI boom, which is the technological advancement of artificial intelligence that started in the late 2010s, now gaining more ongoing relevancy in the 2020s with the rise of ChatGPT starting 2022 and other rising AI models. It is evident that AI is integrated within our technologies and different career fields throughout the world, and while I do understand its practicality and usefulness in however it is applied, I cannot help but raise my concerns regarding its ethics.
Environmental Impact
Viki Auslender and Shani Ashkenazi bring up in their article the strain AI causes towards the environment as it requires processing power, computing resources, raw materials, and overall energy in order for it to function properly. While in the same article, companies have been noted to try to reduce their negative environmental impacts, there is still a toll when it comes to having these kinds of technologies. This major factor regarding the use of AI has turned me away from using it, but I am aware that the general public will still continue to use it despite the impacts.
Personal Impact
With that, I am only one individual with my own opinions regarding AI. I can be vocal about them, do my part, but I believe it would take something significant to sway the public's opinion and usage about AI. In the end, while I am willing to adapt, there are plenty of AI concerns to be addressed since affecting the environment affects all of us.
